they can be yours…

Category: lomela | Date: Jan 27 2008 | By: admin

it’s taken us a while to get our act together with donation items, apparently the rangers in Congo are more technical than us:) but now we’re on. For $20 a  month, one of these two delightful girls can be yours!

Lomela and Kata still sleep with their arms around each other, you can see Lolo on the right - isn’t she amazing with all that hair!!! And there’s Kata on the left, the little sook, apparently before this picture was taken she threw a huge tantrum because she didn’t want to go to bed.

It costs quite a bit to keep Lomela  in bananas, apparently she eats even more than when i was there - and i once saw her eat 3 bananas, 2 mangoes, 3 pieces of sugar cane and some weird red fruit all in one go!

That’s PVC piping Lolo. You can’t eat it! Please someone sponsor her so she doesn’t starve!

Right now my funds are stretched to the limit, but please use my regular monthly donation to fund bananas for Lolo. Can’t have our beautiful girl going without proper nutrition - she’s on a quest to become the only fat bonobo at Lola and I support that! :-)

Oh my what hair she has now — I just cannot believe that is actually her - to think what she came in like — truly amazing — I will have to look at the big pic on my bills, etc., and see if I can do the monthly but if not I will make several one-time donations to what else but BANANA’S! Hey “Lola Banana” - couldn’t we pitch that as a some ice cream flavor and get money?

Sheryl, Washington, DC, on 28 Jan 2008

Soy ice cream! I’d be all over a pint or two of “Lola Banana.”

They both look incredible but Lolo just floors me. It’s as if she’s a whole new bonobo. All that hair!

The girls are gorgeous. I completely wish I could say I will donate $20 per month, but I’m also a bit stretched right now. As soon as I can, I will make a donation. We should hit up Ben and Jerry’s and see if they’ll invent or name one of their banana flavors “Lola Banana” and see if we can get them to donate a portion of the proceeds to LYB. What do you guys think? Lisa

Wanda, Atlanta, on 28 Jan 2008

I am in and I will start looking on the net - also we have a chain called Bruster’s ice cream here in Georgia not sure if they are national? I would think it would help sales who wouldn’t want that flavor! so is it Lolo Banana I guess not Lola - Lolo is a neater name anyway!

THERESA SISKIND, on 28 Jan 2008

You guys are all making me crave ice cream, stop it! Lomela, at least when you go on a binge, it’s all healthy stuff! I feel everyone’s pain, I have cutting and coloring my hair (you can tell!) to save some buckaroos. The nurses at the hospital even give me their cast off scrubs so I don’t have to buy new uniforms. I beieve I mentioned once I have no shame. So, I have one vice I can give up, smoking (please, no lectures) to sponsor Lomela, providing she doesn’t tell Kata as I’m afraid of her!)Anyway, I know Lomela will share with Kata if she knows whats good for her!

Sheryl, Washington, DC, on 28 Jan 2008

No lecture about your health, Theresa, but here’s some info about the negative environmental effects of smoking from the Sierra Club: “If you’re a smoker, QUIT. It’s bad for your health and the health of those around you, not to mention the environment. One cigarette butt alone can take 10 years to degrade! Land and marine animals can die from eating harmful butts, and many destructive forest fires have started with one tossed carelessly from a car window. While you’re on your way to quitting, dispose of your cigarette butts in an ashtray or safely in the garbage. Get a pocket-sized disposable ashtray for free by visiting http://www.nobuttsaboutit.net/

So there.

I think I am in love with these two. There have been several recent medical studies looking at coffee and soda. Drinking 2 sodas per day (even diet) might increase the risk of kidney diseaese (relates to phosphorous, not caffeine) but, the news about coffee hasn’t been good lately either. If Theresa can give up nicotine, I can give up soda and coffee. It will be more than enough to sponsor these two cuties. I just emailed Syed again, wondering when Lola will be in the running on SearchKindly. After Lola runs, I think we should nominate JACK.

Thank you for this lovely pictures!

Good idea, cathy. I’d love to spam the ballots for Lola and JACK.

Oh my, this is one of the best posts ever! I cannot believe how beautiful they both are, Lomela looks completely different, just adorable…my monthly donation should be on its way this week…and I hope it goes to help support these two precious babies…thanks Vanessa!!!

THERESA SISKIND, on 28 Jan 2008

Sheryl, you are right…mea culpa! I hope you will feel a little better knowing I’m a big anti litter bug, can’t stand people littering or being wasteful! Cathy, that probably explains why our nephrologists don’t let there renal patients have soda. If soda can tenderize raw meat just think what it can do to the lining of our stomachs also! Great idea about SearchKindly. And yes, I love JACK, you’ve got my vote.

Wanda, Atlanta, on 30 Jan 2008

I wrote Brusters Corp Office and pitched soy ice cream Lolo Banana — will do a few more — who knows may get a donation to the site out of it at least! I would to see Lolo as a poster girl for banana’s!

THERESA SISKIND, on 30 Jan 2008

Good work Wanda, I love it! Many people haven’t even heard of Bonobos! They don’t know what they are missing out on.

cathy-california, on 31 Jan 2008

I was in touch with Syed from SearchKindly. He tells me that LYB will be randomly chosen at some point to run for a second time. There is no question as to whether it will happen, but they will literally pull the name out of a hat so I have no idea when it will be. In terms of J.A.C.K., it is not clear that they meet the new SK criteria. I am waiting to hear from Roxane and will let everyone know whether they are recognized in the USA. As a new charity to SK, we would be able to get JACK on the board much sooner.

THERESA SISKIND, on 31 Jan 2008

Cathy, we hope to more on this, thanks. These people, like Roxane and Jack, litterally are putting their lives on the line to help these chimps, talk about courage…
