New arrivals - Lukuru & Masisi
Category: Uncategorized | Date: May 19 2008 | By: lolayabonobo
Two new orphans have just arrived. Lukuru arrived on May 10. She was given up by the Congolese - which hopefully means our education programs are working. She is tiny! She has a terrible cold, fever, and worms. Most of her hair has fallen out due to malnutrition, but with the help of the vet staff we hope she will get better soon.
Here she is with our nurse Clemence . She has the most beautiful brown eyes and is very affectionate.

Masisi arrived the day after Lukuru in a similar state. We think he is around three years old.He is very frightened of everything and everyone, and is especially clingy with Anne Marie.
He is severely malnourished and has the skinniest little arms under all that hair.
There is a third bonobo we are trying to rescue from the military. Claudine is in the middle of organising a confiscation.

Good job there. Great to heard from you.
I am sure with your help those 2 bonobos will recover sooner.
Go ahead.

Oh my, what tragedy…their eyes look so sad and haunted. But, I guess is it is no wonder Masisi is so afraid. I look at the first two pictures and see visions of Lomela and Kata way back when. That all said, I am so happy both of these precious babies are in your good care…and hope the third will be in his way soon.
Speaking of Lomela and Kata…please let us know how they are doing…
And much love and support to Clemence and Anne Marie.

Poor little sweet babies! I’m so thankful that they are now in the loving care and arms of the Mamas. Thank you for being there and giving them a fighting chance. Lisa

While I rejoice that these orphans have found their way to Lola, I am deeply sad that their families are probably killed. Please let us know what they need and keep us posted on their progress. They are quite precious.

I am encouraged that the Congolese may be cooperating and giving them up - how sad they have no Mom’s but at least won’t be tortured to death. Please, plese update often on them!

I really hope that the recently arrived bonobos do well and that the third bonobo is soon being care for at Lola Ya Bonobo. I did a blog entry for kids on Lola Ya Bonobo if anyone is interested or knows any kids who might want to read it. wwww.apeaware.blogspot.com

I am so relieved to hear that they seem stable, but, what a disgrace that there are so many of these innocent animals being tortured. Please let us know if you need additional funds to help with their care.
