news from the nursery

kata threw a corker of a tantrum yesterday, because Mama Esperance didn’t give her milk before Lomela. Lolo tried to make up for it by hugging Kata with one hand and chugging her milk with the other, but Kata wasn’t having any of it and screamed so loud the mamas ‘thought she would die’.
Masisi is still looking after Sandoa who is getting stronger every day. she laughs and smiles a lot more but the mamas would like her to put on a little more weight.
Lukuru is turning out to be stronger than anyone thought possible - she clocked His Royal Highness Vanga one when he tried to steal her orange.
On the newborns, Kisantu’s baby boy is called Nkumu, which is Bakongo for ‘prince’. And he is indeed a little prince, his squinty little eyes have a royal air about them already. Grow strong Nkumu, you’re our hope for the future!
It’s not too late to adopt a bonobo for xmas! www.friendsofbonobos.org/support.htm

I’m so proud! My little bonobo girl is taking charge.
Lolo must be the sweetest girl to try and comfort her impatient friend, Kata. That one really is a diva. It’s wonderful to learn about their personalities and see them so healthy and well.
Sandoa and Nkumu are so tiny and so very adorable. I, too, love the photo of Kisantu - her eyes are so expressive. She looks peaceful and loving (and maybe a little tired!)
Vanessa, thanks for taking the time to give us more encouragement about the bonobo release. I may not stop worrying, but perhaps I can worry with a bit more hope.

Sheryl, that is too funny! Kata the diva! Lomela, still as sweet as ever. Really, I still have that picture of Lomela when she was so small and weak, eating a papaya. It still melts my heart to see it! I’m glad she has stayed such a sweet, sweet bonobo girl! Every diva, has to have a sweet friend that stands by them to comfort and support them. I don’t know why I’m thinking of the movie “Beaches” with Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey. LOL!
