Flu and Lodja
Category: the sanctuary | Date: Apr 06 2009 | By: lolayabonobo
We’ve had the most terrible flu epidemic. Lodja died and there are so many bonobos sick. The vets are giving them hot tea with lemon and honey and all the medicine they have but the bonobos seem to fall ill so quickly. It’s something respiratory, the bonobos start breathing really quickly. Brian and Suzy had to pull Kikongo out of the forest last night and now he can barely breath. everyone is so afraid.

I am so utterly sad and sorry for all this hardship you having to endure. You must feel so horrible having to say goodbye to so many of these lovely animals. I suppose you need to do autopsy on some of the animals in order to find out what kind of virus is causing them to die? I wish you all the strength.

Very sad indeed - and with the virus spreading so fast - you must be hurting so bad. May God give you the strength to carry on your wonderful work.

I am praying that the flu is over soon. You all have my deepest condolences on the losses you have suffered. May God give you strength and comfort in these difficult times and protect the remaining bonobos from this illness.
